Are the mounting screw holes of the BS2·tied into Vss and can I use this attached to my frame as the grounding/negative·bus tied to my batteries negative pole?

Continuity test can verify. Intentionaly grounding to frame, I don't recommend especially if system controls voltages from other separately derived electrcial systems.

Q1) Are the mounting screw holes tied to Vss...
A1) Yes, the plated holes at the corners of the Board of Education are connected to Vss.· The Boe-Bot Robot makes use of this with the Tactile Whisker Navigation project - see book page 171 in Robotics with the Boe-Bot.

Q2) ...and can I use this attached to my frame as the grounding/negative·bus tied to my batteries negative pole?
A2)·This is not my area, but I would take·Larry Sutherland's advice.· You may be setting yourself up for ground loops.

Thank you guys, I have a rather complex robot with 7 IR sensors, 3 motors, 3 controllers, and hopefully an RF transceiver system. Lots of Vdd and Vss conductors, I'm hoping I can reduce some of the wiring by creating a frame Vss bus. I am running all systems (motors and BOE) from a 24v system. And yes, I have split the 2-12v series batteries to run the BOE. I'll have a picture of the robot (still working on it) on my web site tomorrow. Check it out if you get a chance. www.willsworld.org

    Once again, thanks.
