DS1302 battery backup

Hello All. I want to use a DS1302 as a time-keeper for a Stamp project, and had a question about the battery backup. I'd like to use a small lithium battery (>3 V) as the backup, connected to Vcc1. If I'm reading the data sheets correctly, I need only connect the battery to Vcc1 and that's it. I don't need to enable trickle charging, set the number of diodes, resistor value, etc. because I'm not charging the lithium battery. When the main power (Vcc2) falls the chip will then automatically switch to battery power. Is it this simple??? Thanks for any help, John R.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift.
That is why they call it the present.
