Spin stamp pins

This has been on my mind for a while.
On the spin stamp, it says DO NOT CONNECT for the pins normally used for programming on a basic stamp 2, even though the diagram clearly shows that these pins are connected to the propeller chip. So...

a) Will it matter if I connect this to the professional development board, or will I end up burning something out?

and

b)If these pins are connected to the microcontroller, what do they do?

These Pins are detailed in the schematic in the SpiStamp datasheet; there is also a thread here having discussed it 4 weeks ago.

    I wasn't here 4 weeks ago...
What about connecting it to a PDB or BOE?

The transistors on those pins which are present on stamps are included on the Spin Stamp, however due to the difference in supply voltage there are situations which the serial interface will not work as expected. Therefore we stated they are DO NOT CONNECT, so that people do not expect those pins to work (though some people have stated they can get it to work). The Spin Stamp can be placed in any socket designed for a Basic Stamp 2, we just wont gaurentee the Sin and Sout pins will work.

Attached are a test program for the spin stamp and the Format object.
I tested it on my system with both a Board of Education rev.C (usb) and
a Javelin Stamp demoboard (serial). In both cases (lucky me) ·I receive the expected
output in a Basic Stamp IDE debug window. This debug window lets
you toggle the DTR which resets the spin stamp. After reset
the program stored in the spin stamp eeprom is restarted.

    regards peter
