if this happened the first time you tried running the stamp editor, then definitely try reinstalling the program.

I have xp myself, and I haven't heard of any problems with vista, but hopefully a vista user who might have had the same problem will speak up.

now I keep my normal use of my xp system under a limited user account. which makes me log onto my xp admin account when I want to install most programs. I don't know if your using an admin or limited account but you might want to find out what type of account your using (if you don't know).

you may even want to make sure you do a normal full shutdown (log off, then shutdown computer).

like I said I don't know yet the specifics of vista but with most microsoft operating systems this usually takes care of silly problems like you have.

unless it's a know problem, in which case someone else will have to help ya out, but try the above real quick.

I have made it to Chapter 4 without any problems. This problem started when I unplugged te USB to test the Boe Bot and became a more frequent occurance as I continued testing.

I am the only Admin. to my computor.

Question_ Unplugging USB are there any percautions?

I have another "Board of Education, Rev C." that I'm using for "What's a Microcontroller" excercises so far so good

Yes. Usually, when you unplug a USB device, you need to click on the little 'card with a green arrow on it' icon on the bottom-right of your monitor. Then select to 'Safely Remove Device'.

Otherwise, Windows is going to think that the USB serial device is still plugged in, and the interface code will fail with the errors you're seeing.

Just as a litttle addition to the information thus far presented about ejecting USB devices, one other task that the "Safely Eject USB Device" icon handles is to "flush the cache". This can be critical when storage devices are involved because any activity that changes data on such a device may LOOK like it has finished (file deletes, renames, adds, etc...), but may actually only have occurred in cache due to being a "small" or "off-boundary" operation...it really may not have occurred on the device..."Safely eject..." ensures that all operations make it there.

I don't know how this might apply to the Stamp's USB interface, so just apply it to "more information"...

    Hello Mr. Sutherland,

Yes, this problem is caused by unplugging while the USB port is open. To avoid this problem, before you disconnect or·reconnect your board, or reprogram the BASIC Stamp, be sure to:

    1) Close any open Debug Terminals

    2) Turn off power to your board

We apologize if you received a Boe-Bot Robot Kit with a USB Board of Education that did not also include a separate document for your USB BOE. (The Robotics with the Boe-Bot text was written when only the serial version of the BOE was available in the robot kit.)

I hope you are otherwise enjoying your kit. If you have any other difficulties, please let us know.

I,m starting to think it might be in my stamp editor. I accidently downoaded 3.3 and 2.2 versions. The 3.2.1 vsrsion which I currently use as per tech support might conflict with some saved programs (3.3 & 2.2versions - Stop, hello world, & etc.) which I saved in CD and stamp editor.

Now when I open up the stamp editorI make sure I'm in the 3.2.1 and the oher two versions uninstalled from computor.

I'll know here in a little bit.

I am interested in others thoughts on this possibilty.

    Thank you

    Stephanie-

I know you are right because I was also making those mistakes too. Especialy leaving the Debug Terminal open!

    Thank you
