anyone know a more local (and less sketchy) source of these camera modules?: www.roundsolutions.com/cmos-camera/index.htm
anything similar would work, I just need a small, low power serial video camera.

Right here: www.electronics123.com/s.nl/it.A/id.2581/.f. Electronics123 is very reliable and ships very fast (I think I got my camera 4 days after ordering via USPS). They have an excellent online ordering system for those who like to use online ordering.

I have one of these and use it with a Propeller and SD card. It works great for making a time lapse camera where you can control everything. The camera's documentation is kind of lacking and you have to send sync all the time to keep it from going to sleep. I may release example code sometime after I finish with my latest project (it involves ethernet, a propeller, and a camera).

Attached is an example image (the camera requires a lot of light). Make sure you get one with a IR cut filter or else it will get flooded by bright light (aka sun light).

Hey thanks, that gives me a lot of lens options as well.
Do you happen to know of any other modules that operate at a higher bitrate? something like 250kbps maybe? These are really the only digital output cameras I've seen out there besides the CMU-cam (and the module that it's based off).

Well, I just received one of these from electronics123 today! You weren't kidding when you said the documentation was lacking though. This module is much smaller than I imagined, and I was thrilled to see it came with a connector/wires.
Now for the fun part. Has anyone written a simple app that lets you at least get the preview video from the serial port? I'm going to start working with this thing tonight, but if theres any work done already I'd love to see it.
    Thanks!

I wrote some test code for the Propeller in spin for testing the camera. The code is really messy, but it should give you an idea on how to talk with the camera.
