An animated JPEG! What's weird is that it's never the one you're staring at that rotates.

When I cross my eyes and look at it, they don't move either :)

Phil,

That's just it... it's not an animated JPG.· This even works if you just print it out.· If you FIX your eyes on one of the circles the remaining circles plus the one you have a fix on will lock their position, but if you catch this out of the corner of your eyes or focus on an imaginary point in-between the circles there appears to be rotational motion.

Beau,

Hee hee! I know. 'Just pulling your leg a little. smile.gif

It's definitely one of the more maddengly elusive optical illusions I've seen.

One of the more interesting one's I've seen is a picture of the mona lisa upside down, but the eyes (and I think the mouth) were right side up.
When you looked at it with the head upside down, it looked normal (just looked like an upside down picture).
But when you turned it around (so the head is right side up) you could instantly see that the eyes were upside down.
It was really kinda spooky.

Bean.

By the way, this picture is the back cover of a Japanese book about optical ilussions.
In case you want to see more of these buy the book (refer to isbn code).

At my office some people printed that picture on t-shirts!

I saw something about this in an issue of "Scientific American". I think the article said it was caused by subtle eye movements.

Conclusion, the mind is meant to be fooled. Thus we had optical and audio illusions.

I was reading in Nuts and Volts about how our ears actually filter you some phase shifts and short echos in real time.

Our perceptions are not only limited. They are somewhat plastic.

I was just sitting here considering the idea of converting a 3x3 clip of that image into spin using bmp2spin... :)
Wonder if it would retain the same effect on my TV... hmmmm.. :)

I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code

People say that if you play Microsoft CD's backwards, you hear satanic things, but that's nothing, because if you play them forwards, they install Windows.

I spent a minute looking at my own code by accident. I was thinking "What the heck is this guy doing?"

That really depends on the quantity ingested. I have tested this.
