Toddler Servos Don't Run, But Hum

Hello,

I just received and built my new Toddler.· I performed the servo centering at times dictated by the instructions.· Now that it is all built, when I download and attempt to run the simple walking programs in Chapter 2, the servos do not move, but rather seem to hum.· I checked all the connections and loosened what some (in case they were too tight and straining the servos) but still have the same problem.

Any suggestions?· Is there any more information I can give to make this clearer?

Thanks,
Mike

This symptom usually happens when you're refreshing the servo's too often. There really does have to be a 20 mSec 'pause' between repititions of the "PULSOUT" command.

Well, ok, that is interesting.· I simply used the code from the Parallax "Advanced Robotics with the Toddler" book (Didn't type it in, used the downloaded version sad.gif ).···· Certainly, Parallax wouldn't would know about this and their code would be near perfection, right?

    Cheers,

Sorry to be innocent, but -- there's a downloadable version of the code? I'm surprised.

Yes, a joint too tight would also cause this. I'm not sure about the Toddler, but perhaps having the left servo plugged into the right socket, and vice-versa, would also cause this?

Well, problem solved!· The very helpful Parallax employee, Josh, helped me test several things.· It turned out that I did not have the jumper wires installed.· I had them for the servo-centering step, but did not know I needed them for the rest of the course.· My mistake!

    Thanks,

    Mike
