Building an H Bridge

I 'm controlling an RC Tank with, i guess, 6v motors, since it ran from 4 AA batteries. I need an H Bridge weather IC form or a bunch of transistors. What do guys suggest?

I use the L293D or equivalent SN754410NE (it can handle more current), wiring the two H-drivers in parallel to double the current handling capacity (2A continuous for SN754410NE). There are many other drivers that will work. A good place to start would be to look for the ones that already have code written for them in the object exchange.

A tip: use a circuit where you can't short the power supply rails together by incorrect software.
