5-Cell "AA" holders

Does anyone know where I can buy some 5-cell "AA" holders ?
I can't find them anywhere.
I know I could use a 1+4 or 2+3 but surely SOMEONE sells them in the USA.

Bean.

I've looked all over for these also, but I've never found any. You can get rechargeables in a 3x2 shrink wrapped pack, but no holders in that configuration. Best work around I've come up with is to use a 6 cell holder wilh one slot jumpered with a dummy cell and/or a wire.

I have used www.batteryholders.com in the past, but I don't see any 5-cell AA holders listed on their site.

Although not ideal or the best use of space, how about using a 6-cell holder and wiring one 'slot' straight through?

    Just a thought,

I have taken aluminum foil, folded it to ~ 1 inch longer than a AA cell, rolled it into a cylinder, compacted each end by banging it on a hard surface till it was the length of a AA cell and used it as a dummy cell.

You should be able to take a 6 cell, and move the positive wire (or ground) to eliminate one cell.
I was looking for one also for changing my Boe-Bot to rechargable. I ordered a 6 AA rechargable battery pack from Digi-Key. This will be 3 x 2 layers, and I'm planning on using velcro to attach it to the bottom. I'll see how this works.

I can't even find them at Farnell, which is pretty much one of the biggest electronics suppliers in Europe. You may need to hack your own. I doubt it'll be much of a challenge for someone such as yourself :)

    Sounds good to me!

Edit - also saw this. We might make our own interchangeable 5 cell rechargable packs.

Couldn't you remove the contacts from the 6th cell and use a wire to connect them. Lastly, you would cut off the part of the case with no contacts. What is wrong with a 4 cell and one cell wired together?

Has anyone contacted a supplier about this?

FYI Radioshack sells battery packs for r/c cars that are 6V.(http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103201&cp=2032056.2818124.2818347&parentPage=family)· I had two, but am not sure how to conect them to my bot.· Basically, there are two 5mm by 5mm plates, one on each side of the pack for the connection.· It is slightly smaller than a 5 cell pack (of AAs)·would be.· I hope this helps somebody.

    Hi Bean,

I found a 5 AA holder for sale in the UK...

    Here are the links:

    Picture

    Catalog Page

It looks like they cost ~7 Euros a piece though (about $10 US) so they're kind of pricey.

    Hope this helps...

Some times I·want to power my Basic Stamp on a Battery Back up but do not have a holder for them and do not want to have to put one together

I have been watching this post to see what you come up with

They are plastic with two mounting holes and 6" leads.
I have to find out what the shipping charges are after I get them.
The holders price hopefully will be $6.95 + shipping.

Why would anybody need 5 AA batteries?
4 AA batteries would already give you 6V which you need to step down to 5V to run the SX.

So you can use NiMh batteries.
They are only 1.2V per cell. So 5 cells gives the same voltage as 4 alkaline cells.

RDL2004, isn't the battery pack mounted 90 degrees from the way you have it. (I understand that Bean is trying to get the 5 to fit)
