controlling a relay with the bs2

I am trying to use the bs2 to controll a relay. the relay runs on 5vdc. I drew a rough schematic of my design. there is more to it that i didn't draw but I can if you want. for now I will describe it. going acroos the common out I have a 9 volt battery on one end and the voltage from that 9volt goes through the relay and into a 470ohm resistor into a led and the ground from the led goes back to the 9 volt battery. That setup is just for testing the relay to see when it is working. Then I have 4 AA batteries that go across the coil of the relay and come out into pin 3 of the transistor, pin 2 is connected to the 1000k resistor which is connected to the I/O 1. ground or vss on the boe goes to pin 1 on the transistor, pin 1 on the transistor also connects to the 4 pack of AA batteries. Thats everything I have connected. is that proper setup?

Actually I think Im going to add the whiskers to my tank and let it roam, just need to figure out where.
