How does the IDE find the prop chip?

I have an object that dumps data to the usb port that programs the prop chip. On·the application that receives the data, I have to manually assign the comm port. I would like to find the comm port that is used for the prop automatically. Does anyone know how to do this or how the ide does it?

It "checks" all unattached COM ports, especially forcing a Prop reset by setting the DSR line. You will not like this.

You can also have a look into Ariba's (Andy Schenk's) PropTerminal - I am not sure if he has published his PC-source, but he certainly will when asked.

PropTerminal does not set DSR, but is just listening in the first place

Until something better comes along... I just note the com port being used by the Tool... when it is writing to the Prop.
Then check and set my terminal's com and save the setting. I leave my PC on... waiting for the next electrical outage to destroy it:)
