My Penguin is more like a do-do...

Very strange behaviour from my freshly built Penguin...

The Stamp seems to work, I can run the LED test and I can see output from the servo calibration in the debug window. But when I run the centre servo program now that he's built, he has conniptions...and when I run the calibrate program nothing much happens at all.

Any clues?

Thanks.

P.S: No, I didn't lobotomize him yet! (See my earlier post).

Apparently you have to connect the stride and tilt servos to the right headers -- I had them transposed ;)

I take it that you have everything up and running correctly?· If not, please let me know and I will guide you through it.

    Regards,

Transposed headers is a certain recipe for a do do bird. The tilt movement is more than the stride, so a mix-up could make him strip a a stride linkage or gear in the stride servo as it hits the physical limitation.

As for your lobotomy, how about the speaker I/O?

    Hi Dave and Ken,

I have everything going well right now. Thank you.

As for the lobotomy, at first I assumed the 7-segment LED was extraneous. I'm now learning how incredibly useful it is for feedback! I love the way it indicates the next move in object avoidance and I even had a concept to make it show compass measurements...

So, yes...getting rid of the piezo might be a good idea.

Have you considered just putting the LED on a shift register? With a little rework of the board layout, you could then put a second set of three I/Os behind the expansion header and folk could go wild :)

I do have to comment the Penguin is beautifully machined! Makes me want to buy a CNC..
