i have a circuit on a Professional Development Board that i would like to test in a car. i can ether run the board off the cigarette lighter or hook a 9V battery up to it. how can i do this. where do place the leads from the battery or if i buy a cigarette lighter adapter what type plug does the board use.

    Here's a big picture of the PDB -- http://www.parallax.com/images/prod_jpg/28138-HUGE.jpg

There's a DC connector in the corner by the 9-pin D-connector.· It is a "2.1mm co-ax."· That's what I'd use.· You could wire that connector to a 9V battery pack (of AAs, or C-cells, &c.)

    Update -- Adding link to 2.1mm plug· http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&productId=147336

···· I,ve been doing this for quite a while!

··· make sure you get the power input positive right as with the development board is NOT protected against
    ··· reversed inputs.· a small perf board with a fullwave rectifier on·it·..

··· input a/c side......d/c side to plug...allows a/c or dc inputs and one don,t have to worry about· which way the positive is!

·· but if you are cheap(rolleyes.gif )a IN 4001 in line with the + line will do....- to + input, bar on recif/diode is +,it goes to·board center,I disconected the center on the board
·· and connected the diode from the center pin to the board,Why they did not do this is beond me as it is hard to replace smp parts that get zapped vs the old board
·· which had the old DIL plug in chips was easy to fix when this happened, this one is not!

·· so go for it! I think the plug is a 2.1mm,just take the power wart with you,or the board, that info should be in the doc,s for the dev board...the attached sch file will open in the "expressPCB" program if you have it.it,s free...

I'm not sure about the board requirements, but if it is 6V then you could use a battery back from the boe-bot. Also, if you have a wall pack you could purchase a cigarette lighter to standard AC adapter and then just plug your wall pack into that. If you go with the second method you could also use the AC adapter for other electronics in you car. (charging portable devices?) Hope this helps.
