I need a robust servo

I think I need a servo that is more robust than the standard 900-00005.· I want to use my servo to drive the pointer for a sort of gauge or meter to monitor changes in resistance.· My pointer needs to be about 12 inches long and 1/2" wide and will be made of sheet aluminum or plastic.· So is the 900-00005 robust enough to handle that, or should I get a heftier one?· If the latter, what would be a part number that is Basic Stamp compatible?· Thanks

I Think it would work if you balance the pointer. Properly balanced the pointer should take no force to hold in in place and only a small amount to move as long as you don't want it whipping about.

    hermhart,

You need to take into account the inertia when changing the velocity of a large object (balanced or not). Make sure you rev up and rev down the movement of your servo accordingly or you'll end up using a lot of power and/or grinding your servo's gears to dust (especially the ones with the plastic gears) and/or frying the servo motor in a short time.
