Setting the status of a thread

Hi there,

I've used the VBForums (http://www.vbforums.com/index.php) quite a bit and one feature that I really liked was the ability to set the status of a thread to resolved. This would change the topic by prepending it with [RESOLVED]. The only person who could do that was the person who started the thread and presumably the moderators as well. I think that would make an excellent addition to this board. I know that this status wouldn't apply to all threads but it could work for people who have a specific issue and are given a specific solution (that works, obviously).

Gr,
Mightor

    Mightor,

The poster of a message can edit/update their message anytime, including the subject. If message posters wish to mark such threads as [RESOLVED], they can. Take care.

Sure you can do that, but a single button action is more likely to make people actually mark threads as such. A distinct lack of threads on this forum with [SOLVED] or [RESOLVED] or other words to that effect prove my point :)
On the VB forum, marking a thread as resolved also changes the thread icon to a green tick mark. It's easy to use and people really do use it. '

We wouldn't have microcontrollers if we were all content to do everything the manual way :)

Unfortunately doing that would require switching to Forum Software that supports that. Even if we did switch I’m not sure we could easily port the message DB over to something new which could mean losing thousands of messages. If our IT Guy has something different to add perhaps he will chime in. Take care.
