Problems with drivers/basic stamp. Help please!

I have all drivers installed correctly and all the hook-ups are correct yet but for some reason when I plug my Homework board into my computer using the CORRECT serial cord it tells me that the port is already in use and that I can't use it. Can somone help me? Is there some way to get the program on the basic stamp to stop running?

    Chase,
Are you using a USB to serial adapter?
If so go to your control panel and delete the serial port in conflicting with the USB adaptor. Or change it's port assignment.

I think its a problem with the BASIC Stamp because the running light stays on even if i unplug the serial cable. Is there any way to reset the memory of the Stamp?

Remove power to the Stamp, or hit the Reset button on the HomeWork board.

The port in use message is a PC problem not the stamp.

PC figures something is using that COM already.· Try assigning a different number (make sure to use that same one in the Stamp I-D-E.)
Update -- disconnect everything else from the USB.

I've seen this happen when I unplug my USB cable, while there's a PC program (e.g. the DEBUG window) using that port, and then plug it back in. The system can really get confused. Try unplugging the USB cable, exiting the PBASIC Editor and restarting it. If that doesn't work, reboot the computer. Also, make sure there really isn't another program using that port (e.g. another instacne of the editor with a DEBUG window open).

Oh, by the way, in the future try using a more descriptive thread title with fewer capital letters. You'll get more help more quickly. Update: Ah, that's more like it!

    Hello,

The most common reason we’ve seen for Port in Use errors in Palm-Pilot/PDA Software on the PC such as Active-Sync or Hot-Sync. Whenever these programs are running they take over any available COM Ports scanning for these devices. Do you have this type of software installed?
