Light burned out? I/0 Example

I'm having some issues with my first I/O example from the Javelin Users Manual.

On page 40, there is an example that makes you construct a simple circuit where one of
the packaged lights will flash when you press a switch.

My Steps:

I had everything set up properly,·program the chip,·and nothing happened.
I double checked my logic and it was correct as well.
I unplugged brown switch I used, and placed in the blue switch.
Still nothing.
I unplugged the green·light and plugged in the red light
"It Worked."
I pressed the switch, and everything went as programmed.
I plugged the brown swith and green light back in
Nothing
I plugged the 'working' blue switch and red light in
Nothing
I tried another red light
Nothing

Did I blow the lights out somehow?
Im also assuming that this breadboard is hot-swappable, correct? I have not read anywhere to 'make sure I unplug it before adding/removing from breadboard'.

Some advice on what in the world I did wrong·would be greatly appreciated.

    Got it.

I didn't know the light itself had a positive/negative. I guess it was plugged in backward 4/5 times.

    Thanks!

I assume the red and green lights are LEDs. These are polarized,
meaning that if you insert them the wrong way they don't lit.
The LEDs have two legs: the long leg is the + and the short leg is the -.
