i am looking for a laptop computer so i can do some programming and test in my garage instead of bringing it inside, but the only laptops i can find only come with windows vista, will the stamp editor work with vista or will i have to get xp

Why spend big bucks on a new laptop? There are plenty of good, cheap, reconditioned ones available that come with Windows XP Pro. I've had a good experience with ThnkPad Depot. The IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads are rock-solid performers new or used and more than adequate for Stamp/Propeller development.

Science Geek,
The stamp editor works fine with Vista. I am using it on my HP NC6400 laptop, it's running Vista Ultimate.

Phil, c'mon, you know just as well as I do that you cannot beat that 'new' smell of new hardware. You don't get that with refurbished hardware :) I wonder if there's a market for spray cans of that stuff.

i want a new one for many reasons, one is that im young and have never bought a BRAND NEW LAPTOP COMPUTER, and also i dont plan on spending over 600 dollars, also i dont have a shop near me that has refurbished systems, and the closest one i dont really like, and i want it to be mine, not my parents and not my sisters but all mine thats why

I wouldn't mind having one of those refurmished laptops that Phil mentioned for my workbench - but let me know if you get that new hardward spray developed Mightor.

If you're using the laptop mainly for working with Stamps (or SX or Propeller), I completely agree with Phil. Save yourself some money and get a used laptop. I'm using my old 750MHz Pentium 3 laptop running Win2k and I've never found myself wishing it was faster. It'll still be all yours even if it's used and you can use the money you save to buy some cool toys from Parallax!

I agree with SSteve, a refurbished would be fine for working with stamps, word processing, ect. The only issue I have is you can get a darn near top of the line (close enough for most people I think) for about the same money. Circuit city currently is having a heck of a sale...
