Hi all,

Check out the use of the Devantech Thermal Array Sensor (TPA81) in the article "The Follow Me Rover" by Steve Norris in Robot Mag issue 7

A schematic and BS2p code can be found at this site if you want to try out the TPA81: http://www.robot-electronics.co.uk/htm/tpa81bs2p.htm

The TPA81 is a little pricey as Jameco sells it for $130, but it can be had for as little as $103 elsewhere.

It works as advertised and I have it reporting the Ambient temp and the array pixel temps as I write this.

Have fun.

Regards,
TCIII

Nice work Tom! you saved me tons of time, that's the next sensor I'm adding to my bot. The price is a little steep for the sensor but I think it's worth it for what it will add.

That is a nice sensor. I just wonder how well it can see warm bodies. I saw that it can see a candle at two meters. I would think it should be able to see a candle further than that. That might be for the size of the candle and a warm body might be a bigger target.
