Mac USB-Serial controller

Hello all:

I am working on a Mac Core 2 Duo on OS X.4.10. When I run the BS2, the USB-serial adapter (GUC232A) doesn’t show up as an option in the pull-downs, but this plug does show up under the “More Info…” window of the “About This Mac”.

Is this one of the supported serial adapters?
Do you have any suggestions on where to go next? confused.gif

Your advice is greatly appreciated,

-Monte

All USB to serial adapters aren't created equally - some drivers don't support all of the RS-232 signals which are required to program a Basic Stamp.

I've tried that USB to Serial adapter on my G4 Mac about 2 years ago and never was able to get it to work with MacBS2. I think the GUC232A uses the Prolific PL2303 chiipset - and there's a an Open Source OSX driver that may work - see here www.muratnkonar.com/otherstuff/macbs2/faq.shtml and get the driver here sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=157692

Let me know if you get it to work with MacBS2

I have successfully used a Keyspan USB to serial adapter with MacBS2, and Parallex officially support the FTDI based adapter they sell here

+1 to the Keyspan unit, and the FTDI-based unit. Other's CAN work, but might not. One labeled for "PDA" use probably won't work -- PDA's tend to be very sloppy in how they use the hand-shake signals (if they support them at all).
