i am going to use the pwm of the bs2 along with a rc circuit to drive a solenoid. The solenoid will open at an amount proportional to the voltage. 0V closed, 5v open, 2.5v half open. But the solenoid needs .37 amps. What should I use to boost the current? Also circuit diagrams would be appreciated.

Have a look at the Industrial Control tutorial that's downloadable from the Parallax Stamps in Class webpage. Starting on page 85 there's a discussion of the use of external power transistors for switching motors, relays, and solenoids from a microcontroller.
