As many of you know, I have been working on an entry for this contest for a while. (I'm using Parallax uControllers, which is why I think it's fine to discus here). One of the main challenges is following the Road using only visual means. For the last month of so, I have been working on a program, in python, to use a web cam to do this effectively. With the help of this thread, I just completed a working prototype of this program. To run it, you will need Python 2.5, Python Imaging Library, and Python Video Capture installed (all free downloads, just Google them). You will also need a web cam installed and plugged in. Let me know what you think.
