Stepper motor diodes
I have built a device that uses stepper motors to move a camera but have run in to a potential problem. The stepper motors drive worm gears so if i want to mode the position of the device while the power is off I have to turn a little wheel that I attached to the back of the stepper motors, but When I do so I'm getting electricity being generated by the turning of the motors that runs backwards through the system. I afraid it could damage my electronics eventually, can anyone recommend a method to cut any power running backwards through the system? Diodes maybe? if so how should they be used? My stepper driver is based on the Allegro A3967 chip. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

You can download the data sheet for this device at:
http://www.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheets_pdf/3/9/6/7/3967.shtml
Page 2 shows internal snubber diodes on all four sections of the
H-bridge.
You shouldn't need to add any extra ones.
However, if you are powering the motor from the same supply
that runs the Basic Stamp, you may want to put a diode in series with
the power line that feeds the Allegro A3967 chip.
