Stereo headphones and the ProtoBoard?

Hi All,

I'd like to output sound (starting with Chip's excellent demos) form a ProtoBoard, but am having trouble finding a suitable stereo amp.

Has anyone else managed to output stereo sound to headphones? What did you use?

I tried the software on my home-made board, putting the output into the line input on my DAB radio. It sounded quite good.

    Hi Leon,

    Thanks for the reply.

So, you just took wires from the two prop' pins to a plug, and placed that into line-in on the DAB?

Yes, that's basically it. I had the RC filter circuit as used on the demo board on my board, on the output pins. I had the radio set to to audio input. I often use it if I need an audio amplifier for test purposes.

I've soldered a few caps and resistors to my Protoboard, along with a stereo jack. I've used Paul's example from this thread - http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=606294 duplicated for each sound pin (P10+P11)

Then I just use the amplified speakers from my computer. It works very well.

Hmmm, so I could do something like the following then?:
    Pin 10 (R) --- 200Ω ---- 10µF ------------------+
                         | +-------+ |
                         | | |--- --- -
                       0.1µF | JACK | | | >
                         | | |--- --- -
                         | +-------+ | |
                        GND --------------------+ |
                         | |
                         | |
    Pin 11 (L) --- 200Ω ---- 10µF ---------------------+

The stereo jack would then plug into the line-in on my PC?

one minor correction - you need to add a 0.1 uF cap between gnd and the junction of the 200 ohm resister and the 10 uF cap for pin 11 also.

Instead of plugging into the "line-in" jack on the computer. I just unplug the speakers from my computer and plug the speakers into the jack on the protoboard. Most computer speakers have a built in amplifier anyhow.

good catch, yes the circuits for each channel should be the same.
