vs1002 SPI

Hi all,
I just got my propeller Proto Board and it worked out of the box. Awesome
But now I am trying to connect it to a vs1002, Which is on a MODMP3 board. I have seen suggestions here in this forum that this should work. But when I try to use the SPI Engine code, posted in the forum, I don't get any response.
The mp3 chip is being powered off of the Propellers power supply.
If any one has any suggestions of example code that would be great.
