propeller proto board problems

i have one brand new propeller proto board
I am trying to program it with a spare usb to 3.3v ttl ftdi converter.
but this converter does not have a DTR output.
so I manually reseting the board.

is the reset timing crucial because im getting a propeller chip not found?

I have also built the transistor converter in the documentation with a dtr

this also does not work
any ideas ive spent a good two days trying to get it to talk

Yes, the timing is crucial, there is a fraction of a second timeout window.
