I am new to using microcontrollers.· I have a basic stamp with education board.· The board uses a USB connection to an XP operating system.· I have the USB cable connected.· When I go to run->identify there is an error that it cannot find the serial port.· When I try to add com3 it does not recognize the loopback test.· It does recognize the ping.· How do I properly configure the com port?· Where do I find that in Windows XP?· I know to find it in device manager with XP Pro but it is not there in the standard XP.· Please help.

thanks

I'm running the same set up. (USB Board of Education and XP). I didn't have to add a port. What version of the editor are you running and do you have the board powered up, USB into your pc?

Try page 313, appendix E, Trouble-shooting in the "What's a Microcontroller book". There is a section for XP etc....You can download this book off the Parallax Web site for free. Good luck.

To use USB with the Board of Education I think you have to install the USB to serial adapter which lets you use your USB ports as Com ports.· You can download it from the Parallax site I think or there is a link to where you can get it.· I got it on CD with the What's a Microcontroller kit.·

    Hello,

Do you have the USB Driver installed? Which COM Port was assigned to it? Have you restarted the PC since you installed the drivers? The PING))) cannot be detected by the BASIC Stamp Editor, so how are you detecting it?
