Fried my new 4x20 LCD

I plugged my LCD into the Vin, not paying attention. Now all I get are black bars no self test just the bars. Is it possible to repair it. Or cheaper to chuck it.

Thanks,

It's just that no one wanted to give you the bad news. It's most likely toast... and not the yummy kind with butter and jelly!

Mmmm what a bummer. I fried my Parallax servo just last week. I was messing around with the PWM output and it went ZIP! GRRRR ZZZZZZ! striped the gears. I have fixed it by using an old futaba servo and salvaged the gears out of that one.

Join the club, all of us have fried something at least once. :)

Just the other day I toasted a USB port in my PC (they don't seem to like when you short the +5V and Ground).

Bean.

The first time I apply power to a new project I run the power through a milliammeter. If current appears out of whack I power down immediately. I've saved components when I inadvertently reversed power leads.

What?! No fire... no flames? No scars? You guys must be beginners! I once shorted a 12V battery on a messy bench. The leeds immediately welded themselves together and insulation ran like syrup off the red hot wires! More excitement than I need in a day.
Twice in the last few months I've flattened my fingerprints "testing" voltage regulators to see if they were hot (they were).
I've posted this before, but I keep a copy pinned over my bench and try to read it before starting any new project, then again every hour of so as I progress. Not all the points always apply, but it reminds me to work carefully none-the-less.

3. The suitability of any part for a particular purpose can be determined by count-- if you have one less than you need, its the right part.
4. Band-aids make it hard to hold tweezers

6. Just because the light isn't on doesn't mean the soldering iron isn't hot.
7. BASIC isn't, squares aren't, screwdrivers don't, and sensors hardly ever will. The only component aptly named is the resistor.

Hello ppl, and fellow engineers!
My name is Thanos,i'm from Greece-so pls excuse any mistakes with the language- and i am a student of Biomedical Engineering.

About that lcd though...I believe you are reffering to an lcd tv? Although i've only had xp with the old tv-ies so i can't tell you about the safety rules, but if i were you i'd open it!You can never know what you might find that can b fixed!Although the situation does sound bad enough i wouldnt be convinced until i saw it with my own eyes.
Even if it is toast you may still take stuff out of it that u could use!But that is what i'd do and of course with great care!
