Dimming 12v dc

I have a working model from chapter nine "what is a microcontroller" book f/ parralax.··This example uses· the digital-pot and a transister to have the bs2 dim an led.· This works great, now I would like to extend this to control 12v, not 5v.· I am planning to use the bs2 to run the animation in a project using both 12v LED's and EL Wire (12v into the inverters).· Do I need to run my board at 12v and match my transistors to the various loads, or is there a way to have my transistors switch & dim 12v while the board runs at 5v?

Thanks for any help,

~Dave

With the proper transistors (I don't know what comes with the kit) you can switch 12v. Take the power for the leds directly from the 12v source not from the regulator on the stamp and make sure the grounds are tied together. Also be aware of the total load and don't overextend the ratings on the transistor.
