PINK - Internet access outside network

Hopefully you guys can help me out. I recently got the PINK board and is wonderful, I'm able to access it within my network, but haven't been able to do so outside it. I have a Belkin router (F5D7230-4). I been googling for days now about this, and I've read, even on your threads, to open port 80 or if in use 81, 8080, etc. I have a domain name that points to my external IP (from dyndns.org) of the form xxx.homelinux.com, which I normally use to remote desktop my pc or change router settings from outside the network. The inside IP address for the PINK is 192.168.8.4, in the router I went to virtual servers (port forwarding) and open port 80(also tried 81,8080) to this address. Then I tried to even access the PINK page by doing http://192.168.8.1:80/index.html (and http://xxx.homelinux.com:80/index.html), which I hope this is the right way (this is were I'm doubting if I'm doing the right thing or not), and it didn't work.

Please if you could help out with this issue, I would really appreciate it.

    Are you using DHCP on the router?

    Some routers won't allow port forwarding in conjunction with DHCP, so you would need to set up everything with static addresses if that's the case with your router.

    OK, I am not sure, since I have never used the pink module...but....

    http://192.168.8.1:80/index.html should NOT work. (internal IP)

    http://xxx.homelinux.com:80/index.html , looks like you are close, in fact I would think this does work.

    I would try setting up a DMZ within the router and try to ping the IP and/or link to an index page within the DMZ.
    Eliminate the pink as a variable and try to connect with a computer. Then work back up to something more secure.

    Hope this give a bit of help....

    Oh, this is all about DHCP too, as in Kevin's post. The DMZ eliminates the DHCP which may not allow opening of ports, since the IP's are dynamic.

    Go to whatismyip.com and get the IP of your modem/router, then access your Pink with
    http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:8080

    8080 being the port your forwarding to the PINK at 192.169.8.1


    edit: Rereading your post, it looks like you want to use the DYNS service to access your PINK.
    I think in that case you'd want to replace the xxx.homelinux.com with your IP address obtained from whatismyipaddress.com I've found when using IP cameras, embedded ethernet modules , it best to already have any and all URL's resolved down to their IP addresses. Hope this helps.

    I have a Belkin wired/wireless router and it will work with the PINK.

    Open the router's homepage and find the local net address for the PINK. Looks like 192.168.8.4 in your case.

    Set up a port 80 passthrough to 192.168.8.4

    Take note of the Belkin's IP address and jot it down.

    From a computer outside your network, enter the Belkin's IP address in a browser. It will pass through the request and the PINK will serve up the webpage.

    Be aware that every time the Belkin reboots or your ISP reassigns your IP, you will have to use the new IP address to find the router from the outside world.

    There are programs that will watch for an IP change on your network and upload the new IP address to a web page. which helps solve the changing IP issue. they run about $10.00

    On whatismyip.com is the same as what the domain(xxx.homelinux.com) is pointing to. I also enable DMZ on the PINK's ipaddress, but there is still no success w/ http://xxx.homelinux.com:80/index.html or the ip address itself :S...

    stamtrol: when I type http://xxx.homelinux.com or the ip address of the router it goes to the config page but not to the pink, I even specify the port and is not working :S...

    Have you got the Belkin set up so you can configure it from outside the network?

    If so, that explains why the PINK never answers. On the Belkin screen where you allow port 80 pass through, temporarily disable the belkin config ability.

    I have a look at my exact settings when I get home.

    Ok, on my belkin, on the Firewall status screen....check for the WAN IP. Mine at the moment is 142.167.77.67 ...you can try it as user sci, password katomda

    Then check that the PINK still has the same local network address...it will move around if lots of units are plugged in and removed from the network.

    Open the Virtual Servers window and allow the PINK's address to pass through port 80. Make sure to click the "enable" box.

    Check the DMZ. No addresses need to be outside.

    Check from an ouside machine by putting in the belkin's IP.

    Run, do not walk to your router and turn OFF the ability to manage the system from outside!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    By entering xx.xx.xx.xx in my browser I was allowed right into the the config screen of your router!!!!!!!!!!!

    On the second screen you've included, uncheck everything except the PINK.

    HURRY!

    Tom, I edited your message to remove the poster's IP address and deleted his post to prevent anyone else from getting the information. Hopefully he will see your reply soon and correct his errors. Never post your IP Address for an open network. Never leave remote admin on in your router unless it is password protected. Take care.

    Tom were you able to see the images though? I unchecked everything but the PINK and still doesn't work :S
