No Continuous $GP... strings from GPS receiver module

Hi, I have a Paralllax GPS module. It sends out a beep every one second and it locks on to the satellites, but does not send any &G... strings unless I wrap my fingers around the module. I am using it in the raw mode and have it connected to a Tiny Trak III and then a VX-2R HT so I can monitor what it sends.

Make sure you don't have it in smart mode.

Thanks, I do have the /raw pin grounded, but I'll check it again.

The Parallax GPS receiver is TTL serial out. I believe if you are going to use it with the TinyTrakIII, the Parallax GPS receiver will need to be configured as RAW output and in the TT3 configuration software you will have to:

    Allow TTL Serial
If this option is enabled, TinyTrak3 will check the serial input level at power-up to determine if it is connected to a RS-232
or TTL level GPS. If not using a TTL level GPS, this option should be left disabled. If enabled, and TinyTrak3 detects a
TTL GPS, it will flash the yellow and green 3 additional times at power up. This will invert the polarity of the GPS input
    signals.

Also make sure that you have a common ground between the two (Parallax GPS receiver & TT3)

BTY: You might want to go back and edit your original post and add a subject line

Thanks Mike, I have set Allow TTL in the Tiny Trak III software. Also checked that the /raw pin is grounded, in fact I am using the 5 volt supplied from the Tiny Trak III.· Since I see the blip every one second and also get messages when I wrap my fingers around the module, seems to me all that is working OK. Just no continuous messages.
