Using RFIDs with a safe

For my next BS1 project, I want to use the RFID reader to create a safe. I have it all figured out, except for the locking mechanism. Is there a special motor lock? Or do I just attach a bolt to the shaft of a bolt and have it lower and raise it?
Thanks!

It will all depend on what the locking mechanism consists of.

One project I did was for a keypad lockable tool cupboard where the door mechanism was controlled by a rotary knob, i merely made a metal wedge that operated by a solenoid and jammed the levers attached to the knob stopping the knob from being able to rotate and open the door. One thing·that tends to get overlooked·in this type of project is a backup means of opening the safe, Battery backup in case of power cut or a mechanical bypass by key.

Hmm... I was actually planning on making plug into the wall, and it unlocks when the correct RFID tag is presented. Does any company sell the type of motor/bolt they use in professional safes? That go in and out, instead of up and down?

Up and down would be great, but I'm worried about timing it perfectly (relocking might be tricky).

    Thanks!

A real safe typically has bolts that extend from the door into the jamb in all 4 directions -- up, down, left, and right. A safe is also typically not a small-cost item, meaning 'off the shelf' components for building one might be hard to come by.

You might try asking a lock-smith, they might be able to give you more information.
