HYDRA XTREME 512K SRAM Card going on sale next week

I will start sales of the SRAM card next week for $59.95. It will be sold on the www.xgamestation.com site and hopefully shortly thereafter available on the here on the Parallax site as well. I need to estimate initial manufacturing. We are doing a short run locally like right now, need to know how "short/long" to make it.

How many plan to buy one? Or plan to buy a Hydra with one?

I just need a rough idea, so I can keep the wait time down as we burn thru units and build them. Don't want to make 1000 if 10 people want to buy them initially.

The cards will be sold first come first served until we have more than we can sell. So if we run out then you are queued in order and when the next card is ready you get it kind of thing.

Thanks,

Andre'

I'll buy one right when it's released ^_^ ... I was hoping that it'd come on sale on Parallax simultaneously so I could order a protoboard too, but... no can do. : (

I'll get one, but like others I'd like to order from Parallax since I have a couple of other things I'd like to get from them as well.

    Hmmm...

I don't know much about hardware. How does this SRAM card compare to the blank experimenter card equipped with a SD slot?

Completely different creature. The SRAM card basically is STATIC RAM, not SD memory over a serial port. So its 100x faster for one thing, so it can be used for graphics buffers and so forth. Thus, just think of it as plugging another 1gb memory stick into your PC. Same idea.

Hmmm, I think you are thinking apples and oranges you are asking about eeproms then srams recast your question maybe? Not sure what you are trying to ask? The card comes with a 128K x 8 serial eeprom and a 512K x 8 SRAM. The design is for a 512K SRAM, so that's hard to increase since the PCB layout, CPLD etc. would change. However, if you can find a larger EEPROM you can always solder on there and replace the other, but I doubt anyone has even taken advantage yet of the 128K I put on there, since most people are still working with the first 32K.

SpaceWar does! I've got 12K of title screens and bout 60K of music data (so far) in the region above 32K. The next SpaceWar release will require HAM to install, and the upcoming HDMF release will make it a piece of cake for anybody to shove music data into the upper 96K and play it back from EEPROM on the fly. Thanks...for all the memory.... :)

BBC64--Did I answer your question though? I wasn't sure what you were asking? Anyway, if I did -- good :) And epmoyer, I didn't know that, but of course, we haven't seen this new version yet, since the 1st one just downloaded with the Prop tool, when will the latest one be ready to try?

Hmm, its probably 2 weeks out. I've been working on making HDMF a quality release with good tools and documentation so that people can incorporate it into their own projects. HDMF will release some time this week, and will include an HDMF EEPROM playback demo which will require HAM (and which will jam pack the 96K with song assets just to show off :). After that I'll go back and finish the music for the next SpaceWar! release along with starting work on folding HSS support into HDMF.

I'm thinking about tying one of these to a prop board. Can you tell me what pins you are using. (hopefully none of the usb lines) and also where/part# I can get that socket?

    Thanks
