serial data, inverted vs true...

Hi all,

When you send inverted data instead of true, are all levels inverted, or just the data bits ?

The idle state is high and start bit is low for true data, are these also reversed for inverted data ?

(dont have a stamp or tools here to check, but would like to know for some hardware design that i may be able to avoid in software).

Cheers,

The state and all bits are inverted; for Inverted mode, the idle state is low, a start bit high, the stop bit(s) are low. It's exactly as if you took a true mode signal and ran it through a simple inverter.

    Hi Jon, and thanks.

I'm embarrassed that I asked, its obvious that if you invert the signal in hardware, everythings inverted..

it was 11 pm, i was tired, we won the footy by a point and i was still excited, ... cant think of any other excuses at the moment, but stay posted... oh, also been the victim of a slow optocoupler on an rx circuit (ok at 1200, not at 4800).

    Cheers, Chris.
