Building a remote infrared thermometer ?

hi everybody

I built a thermometer using the LM35 sensor and the LTC1298
tha displays the result with 3 '7-segments leds'·using MAX7129.

Everything works well on the USB breadboard but I would like to know
what king of IR transmittor and receiver to use to make a remote sensor
in a very small box.

Thanks a lot for your help
Jessica

Do you mean you want to use IR for communications or do you want a non contact IR thermometer?

This article www.parallax.com/dl/docs/prod/sic/WebIR-%20v1.1.pdf referenced by P.J.Allen in another topic talks to communicating with a boebot from a tv remote but the communications might give you some ideas.
