ExpressPCB and ExpressSCH usage for PCB design

I have been using ExpressSCH (part of ExpressPCB package) for some time know on a basic level. I have however, never used ExpressPCB for designing Printed Circuit Board layouts. I would like to move into this but need to know if I first create the schematic using ExpressSCH and does is automatically create the PCB (once its checked for netlist errors)? OR do I start with the ExpressPCB program and create a PCB and have it automatically create the schematic?

What is the correct method?

Thanks.

No, Express will not create the PC board.· After you complete the SCH part, then go to the PCB part and layout the board as you wish.· Parts identified in the SCH must be used in the PCB in the same place.· When the PCB is finished, you can link it to the SCH drawing by clicking on File/Link schematic to PCB.· If you click on the network icon at the lower left of the toolbar, then click on a connection, all the connection points will turn blue.· If you get a beep, then you have an error, either it is wired wrong or a part is not properly ID'd.

You don't have to wait until the PCB is finished before linking it to the schematic. I link at the beginning, and use the "show connections" feature to check my layout as I go along.

    Thanks for the information guys.

What will linking the PCB to the schematic do for you?

Does the parts you create in SCH have to be named identically to PCB?

    Thanks.

Yes they do need to be named the same. Linking to a schematic basically gives you instructions for routing the traces.

I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code

People say that if you play Microsoft CD's backwards, you hear satanic things, but that's nothing, because if you play them forwards, they install Windows.

I spent a minute looking at my own code by accident. I was thinking "What the heck is this guy doing?"
