BOE + EB500 : Trusted Device connection to Motorola RAZR

Does anyone know a way to get the eb500 and a moto razr to connect?

i need to set up a trusted connection in order for the razr to start it's bluetooth communications when in range of the eb500.

i know the razr's mac, and can view it if i go through a bunch off button presses and set the phone to 60 second discovery mode. the problem i have with this is the button presses themselves. i'm attempting to use bluetooth for access control, so that when my phone is in range, the door unlocks. this is setup and ready to go for the smart phones some of us use in the office. but for those who use regular cell phones, the bluetooth is set to invisible, untill it establishes a connection with a trusted device. see the delima?

smart phone users can walk on in, while less expensive phone users have to go into their phones menu and set their phone into bluetooth discovery mode. this allows the eb500 to then see the phone's mac, check the access list and let them into the building.

the eb500 is set to it's factory defaults, except for when i call "lst visible 10", but that should not effect the phones ability to see the eb500.

has anyone had similar issues?

does anyone have a lead for me, or somewhere new to look for a solution?

    Clark,

This is an interesting concept…There is the risk of someone cloning your MAC address, but I do like the way this works. In order to connect to a device you need the MAC address and the device must support SPP. I would think the RAZR would support it (I have one) though I have never tried it. If the device (other phone) isn’t visible to the EB500 there’s no way to simplify this. It would be slow and tedious to attempt to connect to all MAC addresses in the list to confirm the phone is available.

as i have it set up now, it works "okay". i need it to work "fabulously".

as is, i have a short list of macs. when an authorized mac is detected, it readies the doorstrike, and on pressure mat activation, the door strike is powered and the phone toting person has access to within. the only problem with this is that some people (depending on their phones setup) have to get their phone out and make it discoverable. before i found this problem, i was making the eb500 invisible, unconnectable and i set the security to closed to help with possible hacking attempts.

between this setup and the cctv, i think we are fairly secure. i think stealing an autorized phone would be more simple than cloning a phones mac address.

on a seperate note, while i have attention. do you know if a7 has incorporated any kind of signal strength monitorin ability? i would, if possible, like to start working on some sort of mac address triangulation code. from 3 eb500, be able to tell what eb500 the authorized device is closest too.

I’m not aware of anything like that. Of course, even if there was you’d need a lot of communication between the three units to pinpoint the location. Typically on the small scale we’re talking this is very difficult. Usually triangulating a signal is done on a much larger scale, such as in a cellular network. Even then there are limitations. Take care.
