What is the size (in mm) of the barrel plug (power plug) on the proto board.

I need to order some power supplies and could not find this out by reading any of the DOC.s

LewisD

PS. I know the proto board says 6-9VDC .....

Parallax
your 7.5 VDC 1A is backorderd
the 9 VDC 300ma is too small for me.

can I Use this 12 VDC 1A?

I think the PS I'm using has a 2.1 mm plug.

The plug's OD is 5.5mm, bore is 2mm

What are you going to use the power supply for (Protoboard + what?). Unless you're going to be driving servos or a lot of LEDs, the 9V 300ma supply may be more than adequate. Radio Shack sells an excellent 6V 1.8A switching regulator in a tiny greyish package that works fine.

The problem with the 12V supply is that the on-board 5V regulator has to dissipate all the extra power as heat. At 12V and 1A, that's 6+ watts. The regulator will probably shut itself down to prevent overheating. With a 7.5V or 6V regulator, that's only 1/2 to 2 watts.

I've got a 9 volt 500 mA wall wart that I use with my protoboard. Works great, but when I power 2 servos with it, the 5 volt regulator gets very hot! What would probably be a better solution would be to use a 6 volt supply and run the servos off VIN instead of the regulated 5 volt supply.
