Motor control with the HIP4080A

Hello,

My robot consists of the motors and chassis of an r/c truck.· I took out the r/c EMC and am building my own H-bridge motor controller, looking to use the HIP4080A and 4 power MOSFETs.· My issue is this:· the HIP4080A requires ~12V power, whereas my motors require ~5V.

Will the·motor controller function correctly if·the HIP4080A is at 12V, but the potential across the motor is only 5V?· Or·is there any conflict with having 5V across the MOSFET source/drain, and then 12v across the·gate/source?

Many thanks!

I wonder if these may be a better choice?

    cgi.ebay.com/3-TA8050P-1-5-AMP-H-BRIDGE-MOTOR-DRIVER-IC-BASIC-STAMP_W0QQitemZ260106341940QQihZ016QQcategoryZ4663QQrdZ

    It says:

[[[ Up for auction is a lot of (3) NEW H-Bridge Motor Driver IC's TA8050P, made by TOSHIBA. Bonus, I am now including a set of (3) 10 uF 35V capacitors to go with the Motor drivers. The motor drivers can handle up to 1.5 Amps, at 6 to 24 volts on the motor side. It has TTL 5V logic input on the input side. They are good for driving small motors, for little robots etc. There are 4 operating modes it can be in, they are: Forward, Reverse, Stop and Brake. The logic can be driven from your favorite microcontroller,Such as a PIC or Basic Stamp, etc. Also, there are some protective functions built in like : Thermal shutdown, Short circuit protection, and overvoltage shutdown (overvoltage shutdown starts at 25 to 30 volts). It also has protection diodes for counteracting counter electromotive force (when you switch between foward and reverse). The package is a 7 pin SIP 0.1" spacing, so they are easy to fit onto a prototype PCB's, OR solderless breadboard. Here is a short description of the pinout: TTL logic input (pins 1,2), motor output (pins 3,5), Common GND (Both TTL logic, and motor GND pin 4), Motor power VCC (pin 7), pin 6 is a No connection. The only external parts needed is a 10 uF filter capacitor, now included in auction. I will provide a 7 page datasheet with auction. I combine shipping. All sales final, No returns, Since items are NEW. I accept Pay-Pal or money orders only. Payment is due within 7 days of close of auction. Ship within USA only. Thanks for looking and Happy Bidding!!! ]]]

    Good Luck!

    J -

Brings up a good point.· For an r/c motor at way less than full power I should be able to use an integrated motor controller, rather than separate H-bridge and MOSFETS.· I won't bid on that particular item, but now I've got the idea I can look for the right one for me.

    Many thanks,
