onboard tire temp gauge

I am doing a project in my principles of engineering class using the basic stamp.
My idea was to make an onboard tire temp gauge so when a race car would take a warm up lap they would be able to read when their minimum temp of their tires are to start the race.
Is there anybody that has any information or similar projects and what hardware would i need?

The LM35 (www.national.com/pf/LM/LM35.html) is a precision temperature sensor. There are examples of its use with a BS1 and BS2 (www.parallax.com/dl/docs/cols/nv/vol1/col/nv29.pdf) as well as some other sensors. There's also the DS1620 with examples in a Nuts and Volts column (www.parallax.com/dl/docs/cols/nv/vol1/col/nv2.pdf and www.parallax.com/dl/docs/cols/nv/vol1/col/nv39.pdf).

The Applied Sensors tutorial is full of useful information (www.parallax.com/html_pages/downloads/siccurriculum/documentation_sic_curriculum.asp) and Tracy Allan has an excellent website with information on using Stamps for environmental measurements like temperature and lots of other stuff (www.emesystems.com).

Google for "non-contact temperature sensor" There was an article in Circuit Cellar magazine on using one in issue #175 (Feb '05)
