SX20 Programmer
I love surface mount devices. I can make all my circuits smaller and cheaper! Some people have trouble soldering yet alone seeing them. With practice anyone can accomplish this. I have an Antex iron with a needle thin tip that is used for this purpose. One problem I ran into is, How do you program them? I etched a circuit board that allows me to do just that. It is crude, but it works!
So how do I use my "new toy" to program these things?
There is an SOP 20-pin footprint on the rear of the circuit board with the proper pads connected to the 7805 and header. A surface mount 1206 10k ohm resistor pulls up the MCLR pin. The header is where the SX key attaches.
1. Take your SX20 and position it on the pads.
2. Take a piece of tape and secure it in place. If contact is not good, apply pressure with your thumb :)
3. Connect the SX key.
4. Program it.
