Poormans Demoboard Notes

With my second protoboard arriving next week, I thought I'd pull all my setup notes together into one place so I can get it up and running quickly. Given the amount of time (hours) I spent running this information down through multiple searches of this forum, it's offered here as a .PDF Use it with the understanding that: I am not an engineer (I don't even play one on TV) and that your own mileage my vary. Poorman's Protoboard Hardware Addons
[Update: Attached]
1. Adding the SD/MCC interface
2. Adding audio outputs
3. Adding composite video output
4. Connecting a switch

Some might recognize some of their entries in the text, I take no credit
for the smarts behind these items, just the convenience of the data.

You could also add for the poorman's demoboard the Floppy Drive hack for very cheap SD/MMC connector.

Works a treat, and practically free, as long as you have an old cable laying around in your spare parts box ( presuming you have one·smilewinkgrin.gif ).

ps, sorry for the grainy phonecam image.

It almost looks like someone snipped the A/a end off a dual connector floppy cable.
If one knew the places to insert pins in the "a" end it looks like you wouldn't even
need to tear it apart. Is that what's been done here?

Yeah, it's the end of the floppy cable connector.
as for placing it, I can do a closeup on where it inserts if you wish :)
if you look closely on the Connector, it's almost like it has guide lanes for the SD to simply slide in, which is good news.
each of the 7 main pins line up exactly with the connector.

Here's the EXTREME close up :)

As you can see the inside 7 pins ( the ones you need ) line up perfectly, the blue ridges·even have a guide slit to make sure they go in smoothly how convenient is that :)

So if you have a spare floppy cable then go for this option, as it works a treat.

That's good info about the floppy cable - but I should point out those are OLD floppy cables. That looks like a 5 1/4 inch or
8 inch floppy drive cable from the early 80's.

After getting a bad SD breakout connector from Sparkfun, I took the time to completely
document the "junkbox SD connector" made from a floppy connector.

This document has been tested, and anyone should be able to get it working quickly using this.

[BTW, those SD cards can withstand major hookup errors. <wink>]
