I'm building an LCD serial adapter similar to the parallax sx/b serial LCD example but with the sx20 chip. My question is do I need an external crystal or resonator for this? or can I get away with using the internal resonator at 4mhz? the example i have seen use external 4mhz resonators, is the internal 4mhz resonator not acurate enugh for serial comunication?

That's been a matter of "debate."· It may be that it depends on the bps (favoring slower speeds.)· I'm picky and have always gone with a crystal-based clock or an external oscillator.

There really is no debate: for relaiable serial comms you should use an external crystal or oscillator.
