They are true servos. Hobby servos but servos just the same. What do you mean by position feedback? If you mean info on where they are physically on their path then some kind of encoder is needed.
This is done with a Propeller, but Beau claims it could be done with a Stamp or SX as well. There is a short video clip attached, where he moves one servo by hand, and the other servo tracks his movements. I was impressed!
