EmbeddedBlue 500 User Manual
Hi guys,
I am going through this manual and trying to teach myself how to use the eb500. I happen to have the ser-c version of the eb500. I have followed the Directive for eb500 ser-c owners from Parallax for removing the #3 pin from the eb500. Today I set out to make some progress on comunicating with the eb500 and my Boe Bot. My problem is that on page 10 of the manual I came across the following :
I/O Lines
The eb500 module features a 20 pin header for connecting to the Parallax AppMod header. A
full device pinout is available in the Technical Specifications section of this manual. There are
several pins that are important when performing the exercises in the Establishing a
Connection and Communications sections of this manual.
Pin 3 of the eb500 module, which aligns with the pin designated “P0” of the AppMod
header, is the UART data output pin.
Pin 4 of the eb500 module, which aligns with the pin designated “P1” of the AppMod
header, is the UART data input pin.
My question is this. Is this something I should be concerned with? Tom......having a bad day

Sorry to hear you had this mishap. If your eb500 is a SER C module and you damaged it while trying to make that change, we'll replace your module.
BTW, here is a link to some very clear instructions on how to remove the pin. Please check them out.

If you removed the pin shown in the picture, your eb500 will be fine. If you removed a different pin by mistake, please email sales@parallax.com, and they'll get the replacement wheels turning.

I had no problem removing the pin as per instructions. The problem is the manual page 10. It states that pin 3 is important. I'm getting confused and thats no fun :-/

With just a few extra lines of code, you can insert eb500 Bluetooth wireless into any of these existing applications. By following the steps in the eb500 manual, you will learn how to make the BASIC Stamp communicate with a PC, other BASIC Stamps, and other portable devices. Each of those examples include the "few lines of code" you'll need to replace serial communication wires (or other wireless modules) with eb500 Bluetooth.

Not to worry then.· You correctly removed the eb500 pin that connects to BASIC Stamp I/O pin P3.· As far as the eb500 pin map is concerned, that's eb500 pin 6.· See page 137 in the eb500 manual.
