Dallas 1 wire ???

Hello,
· Could someone out there breifly describe for me what is meant by Dallas 1 wire devices and how this works ?
Also direct me to where I can learn more.

    Dallas Semiconductor (now part of Maxim) developed this. It uses one wire (in addition to ground) for power and signalling. The wire (line) stays mostly at +5V or +3.3V and makes short transitions to ground for signalling. Many of the parts have a diode and on-chip capacitor to maintain the voltage during the short pulses to ground. Some parts need an external power supply. Each device has a unique address. There are temperature sensors with their own alarm limit sensing. These have been used for thermostats in buildings for example and many can be hung off the same pair of wires (signal and ground).

    Hello ... just search Google with "Dallas 1 wire" and you have more stuff than you ever can read !!
    Interesting stuff too if you are heavily in measuments and control.

    Try his one with "Dallas 1 wire" as the argument and you find interesting treads and applications.
