New to Robotics

I am a student and I have a Quad crawler. I am doing basic stuff with the robot until I can learn more about it. I have a computer science background. My first question is if the robot pulls to the right when it should be going straight am I suppose to slow down the left side? And with the basic code provided on the website for basic walking how would I do that. I don't understand the language very well. I just need some insight.
