Super Carrier Board Questions.

I have a couple of questions on the Super Carrier board (27130).

Is the 5v coming off of the Voltage Regulator rated at 1 amp (like the BOE board)? I would like to run the Serial LCD (27977) off of the vdd bus, if possible.

Can I solder components onto the board (bottom side)? I would like to do the prototyping with wire wrapping and then finalize the project with solder.

The Super carrier looks like the BOE without the breadboard, is that accurate?

The regulator is rated at 1A. It doesn't have a heatsink, so the actual current available depends on the supply voltage. Even with a 7.5V wall-wart, you're still dissipating 2.5 watts with a 1A load. You'd need a heatsink for that.

The holes are plated through as I recall. I've built some projects using this board ... no wire wrap ... all point to point soldering ... worked fine.

That Serial LCD you mentioned only draws a maximum of 20 mA - so you'll have no problem running it off the Carrier boards regulator with or without a heat sink.

Actually the Serial LCD draws ~100 mA when the backlight is on. As for the Super Carrier Board being the same as the BOE there are other differences besides the breadboard…For example, on the BOE V_IN powers the BASIC Stamp Module while on the SCB it is powered by V_DD from the on-board regulator. Also there is no power switch. It does come with headers for adding the servo connections though. And there is a heat sink, but not big enough to give the full 1A current draw.· I use the Super Carrier Board for many one-off projects, some of which are located in the Completed Projects Forum.· I hope this helps.
