Soldering Iron Question

Does anyone know if the Weller WLC100 soldering Iron is safe for static sensitive components? I read somewhere that the Iron is ungrounded, and it has a voltage of 30-114 outputted through it's tip.

That's correct... the WLC100 isn't ESD safe. I used to use one a lot and never had any problems with it, but if you have some very ESD sensitive devices, I wouldn't use it.

Would you say that it's okay for stuff like crystal (for the Propeller and SX)? What about directly soldering Propellers, BS2s and SX chips? I almost never do that, but I occasionally run out of sockets.

I've never messed w/ BS2s and SXs, but IIRC the Prop has been designed to withstand ESD... and tested up to ~4000V. I did a lot of soldering with my WLC100 and never ran into problems, so I'd assume it'd be fine for all of those, although hopefully someone will chime in if they've had a different experience w/ these chips and a non-ESD safe iron.
