I have successfully worked with my BS2 and BOE on my old computer for quite some time and am very happy with it. I recently tried to use it with my laptop and am having problems. I bought a USB to Serial 232 from parallax and downloaded the driver etc. the editor recognizes the com port but not the stamp. I tried in BM options moving the latency down to 1 as suggested with online troubleshooting and it didnt help. Not sure what to do. please help, very excited about getting back into the BS2.

You downloaded the driver, but did you install the driver before you plugged in the USB connection?

The FTDI-based USB converter does need it's own drivers loaded before the USB is plugged in. Otherwise, a 'generic' USB to serial driver is loaded -- which does not support the FTDI properly.

Unplug the USB adapter, and re-install the driver. Then, when you plug in the USB adapter, your PC will 'find' the correct driver.

Is there power on the BS2? Are you using a 'straight-through' RS-232 cable?

    Are you using a BOE?

power is on, the adapter is a "usb to serial (RS-232) Adapter" stock # 28030 and the cable is "USB A to mini B cable" stock # 805-00006, and yes i am using a BOE

not sure what a 'straight through' cable is

Ah. Some USB adapters still require you to use an additional RS-232 DB-9 cable to connect to the BOE board. And that cable must be wired "straight through" -- pin 1 to pin 1, pin 2 to pin 2, etc.

It sounds like you're connecting directly to the BOE boards DB-9 connector with the USB adapter, which should work.

Well, I'm almost out of suggestions. Could you try to reconnect your old computer to the BOE and make sure THAT works?

Did you try a fresh set of batteries in your BOE.

Is the COM Port that was assigned to the USB Adapter even showing up in the list when you try to identify the BASIC Stamp? In your first message you indicated it did, but I wanted to clarify if it was the correct COM Port. Are you getting Echo or Loopback? It could simply have been damaged in between using it between each computer. Do you have the ability to test it on the original setup?
